Sialic acid (N-acetil neuramin acid, NANA) is present in serum as free acid and enzyme bound (alkaline phospatase, gama GT), ceruloplasmin bound and bound for other glycoproteins
(tumor markers). Sialic acid is a product of cells distruction. Ionic radiation, cytostatic and malignand disease induced an increased cells degradation and increased sialic acid levels in serum.
The reduction of tumoral mass following surgical or medical treatment was accompanied by a decrease in sialic acid levels. Besides, sialic acid levels declined back to normal values afther complete remission of tumour.
Sialic acid was determinate by colorimetric method (Boehringer). We measured serum sialic acid levels in patients with EPITHELIAL OVARY CARCINOMA. All patiens was operate (THOA) with stadium disease III (FIGO), maximum one month afther operation.

RESULTS
N= 63, middle x =3,16 plus/minus 0,4436 mmol/L.
I group-without residual tumour: N = 48, middle x = 3,25 plus/minus 0,7800 mmol/L.
II group-with residual tumour: N = 15, middle x = 3,01 plus/minus 0,5484 mmol/L.
Control group: N = 10, middle x = 1,88 plus/minus 0,4436 mmol/L.
Normal values: 1,68 – 2,24 mmol/L.

CONCLUSION
The results indicate specific and statistic significant high sialic acid values in serum in all groups of patients with EPITTHELIAL OVARY CARCINOMA (I, II, I plus II) against control group (p < 0,001). Corelation between groups was not statistic significant.
