In recognition of the geniality and achievement of former Prof. Roland Richterich, SULM has established in the year 2004 the first time an award, named after him. Outstanding personalities that have demonstrated achievements for Swiss Laboratory Medicine will be honored with this award.

Three categories will be recognized as being academics, biomedical analysts and general administration. SULM has prepared a manual containing selection criteria. The recommendation for award recipients can be made by anyone and has to be suggested to the managing committee of SULM. The board of SULM will then decide independently upon the finalists. During Swiss MedLab up to 3 awards will be given every 4 years to the suggested and selected personalities.

During Swiss MedLab 2012 in Berne, SULM was proud to pay tribute to the following persons:

• Prof. Dr. phil. nat., Dr. h.c. Walter Riesen
